how to install this plane:

after unzipping you'll find the following structure:

FS98\Aircraft\Discus\..

move the Discus folder with everything in it to your own FS\Aircraft folder.

next move the gauges from within the Discus\Gauges folder to your own FS\Gauges folder.

if you don't like the panel use JAB98 to select another - it's a great utility.

and now you're ready to soar - enjoy !

once again a new sailplane...

this time it's a standard-class Schempp-Hirth Discus

with a generic Schempp-Hirth sailplane panel ( the bitmap is part of the panel of Thierry Ogerau's Nimbus ). a photorealistic panel might be released as soon as i can find a decent picture...

moving parts are the ailerons, rudder, elevators, landing gear, airbrakes and canopy.

the airbrakes are fully proportional and coupled to the throttle keys [PgUp] & [PgDn] - but there's a catch... it only works when one of the controlling gauges is on the screen - so either the main panel or the minicontrol has to be in view. so here's what you do - you bring up the panel window [W] and if you want a clear view ahead use [Shift][1] to remove the main panel. don't remove the minicontrol [Shift][2] or you'll lose control over the airbrakes... if you don't like the sight of this control you can always resize it - one bit is enough - as long it's there it'll function.

the [F8]/[F5] combination opens and closes the canopy - without disturbing the flight characteristics...

the instruments includes a compensated variometer, based on a Cambridge CAV II original. the top switch selects range: up = 2.5 m/s, middle = 5.0 m/s, down = 20 seconds averager. the bottom switch selects response: up = slow, middle = fast, down = off.

the minicontrols are either in metric or british units and are set by the units mode of fs98. use options|preferences...|international|units of measure to select the one you like best - it might make it easier to get used to the metric system...
